Questions from cleaners

Do I need to be registered as self-employed?

Yes, but it's free and takes 10 minutes on the HMRC website. We can walk you through it if you haven't done it before. You'll be responsible for your own tax via Self Assessment.

Do I need to create invoices?

No. We operate a self-billing arrangement — that means we create the invoices on your behalf. You just complete the job, and we handle all the paperwork. You'll get a weekly statement showing all your completed jobs and the total paid to your account. One less thing to worry about.

Do I need to bring my own cleaning supplies?

Most properties have basic supplies. We'll provide a cleaning caddy with our preferred products for your first jobs. After that, we can either supply them or you can use your own — whichever you prefer.

Can I work for other cleaning companies too?

Absolutely. You're self-employed — you can take work from wherever you like. Many of our cleaners have their own private clients alongside our jobs.

What if I can't make a job I've accepted?

Things happen. Just let us know as far in advance as possible so we can reassign it. Reliability is the most important quality we look for — consistent no-shows mean we can't keep sending you work.

How busy is August festival season?

Very. Edinburgh's Airbnb market goes into overdrive during the Fringe. Daily turnovers instead of weekly. Cleaners who are available throughout August can earn significantly more. It's our busiest — and best-paying — month.

I'm a student — can I do this part-time?

Yes. Many of our cleaners are Edinburgh students. You choose which jobs to accept around your timetable. International students should check their visa allows 20 hours/week during term (no limit during holidays).
